The Somatic Academy is dedicated to the work and research field of the tangible body. Originating in English-speaking countries, all holistic and body-centered disciplines that belong to this field are called “somatics”. They use the body as a portal to the whole human being.
The tangible body is a source and resource for health, artistic expression and personal development and goes far beyond the “functioning” body. Its perception makes it possible to enter into a more conscious relationship with the social and natural environment.
The aim of the Somatic Academy Berlin is to shed light on the diversity of perspectives, advantages and limitations of somatic methods and make them tangible; to strengthen the overall field of body approaches through cross-method collaboration; to teach experiential knowledge in a professional manner; to enable people to be autonomous and relational, self-empowered and empathic, connected to themselves and to a greater whole; and to bring this knowledge and these experiences into society.
The Academy’s services are aimed at laypeople and professionals, individuals, groups and institutions. They establish links between academic knowledge and the experiential knowledge gained through body-oriented methods. The Academy promotes the recognition of experiential knowledge as an indispensable part of science.
